Mindfulness

Mindfulness

Ian Jonson

Mindfulness is a sense of being aware of well you guessed it your mind, but also your reactions, emotions and all the daily stressors that bring us down. A big part of mindfulness is knowing the Mind-Body connection. Our thoughts are quite powerful and can easily influence our emotions. Our thoughts can either be our best friend or worst enemy.

Emotions such as joy or sorrow often become feelings in the body but how the "feelings feel" is completely based on your mental interpretation of the emotions. Here is the crazy part that every human is a unique individual in the world and can react to the exact same emotion as someone else but have completely different feelings. Why is that exactly? Well I think then it goes into personality type and your own psychology and the many more complex layers of the human being.

The Buddha talks a lot about mindfulness and within this self-observation and trying to be more aware of your tendencies, there needs to be a sense of detachment where you can recognize what is causing you to feel that way without any bias or perspective. The mind loves to create it's own interpretation on things even your own health. Thats why there is always 2 sides of the same story, and why it is hard to distinguish what is truth and reality from the minds Bias and opinion. The Buddha then knows that to be more mindful it takes training.

Training yourself to no longer be the victim of your mind but to be aware of whatever part of you that you don't like that it can change with dedication and openness. In the end of the day all we want is to be healthy, motivated and content in our daily lives and majority of the time we are the only one's holding ourselves back.

Mindfulness is eliminating the parts of you that hold you back whether it be emotions, mindsets, behaviors or habits the first step in anything is always awareness and that is simply all that it is.

To become more mindful: Take 5-10 minutes every single day to refresh your mind by meditating. If you have never meditated before I promise you can start at any age with any conditions absolutely anyone can benefit from meditation, and simply take those 5-10 minutes and try to forget all about your problems, all of your worries forget even your environment and who you are as a person and just try to be NOTHING. When you disassociate with your mind and body for even 5 minutes it can do a world of change and bring so much mental clarity. You will realize it is hard to control your thoughts and with time you can become more and more aware of your thought patterns and mental tendencies of why do I feel jealous about this person? Or how come this makes me angry? or whatever it is for you, gaining some clarity on the root of the problem which is always internally can bring such benefits and joy.
